Motorcycle Ban, City Provides Alternative Transport

On upcoming December 17, Jakarta Provincial Government applied the regulation of motorcycle ban on Bundaran HI - Jalan Medan Merdeka Selatan.

Saefullah, Jakarta Secretary (Sekda) said, facility to support the policy is already prepared. Ten free double-decker bus which operates from 6 AM to 10 PM are prepared as the first stage.
"For those who work in Thamrin to Harmoni, we provide free double-decker buses for them. Later on, five additional double-decker buses are also invited," Saefullah said, Tuesday (12/2).
Motorcycle Restriction Trial Held DecemberThe regulation is one efforts from Jakarta Provincial Government to handle the traffic condition in capital start from December 17, 2014. Metro Jaya police also cooperates with Transportation Department to apply this regulation.
"If this regulation is effective after 3 months, we will expand the restriction area," said the former of Central Jakarta Mayor.
Muhammad Akbar, Jakarta Transportation Department Head stated, when the ban is applied, double-decker bus fleet will stop in some regular bus stops along the area.
"The double-decker bus route starts from Bundaran HI-Thamrin-Medan Merdeka Barat-Harmoni and returns to Bundaran HI," he told.
Akbar continued, for the riders who do not use double-decker bus or Transjakarta, can use alternative road along east side as Jalan Sabang, Jalan Medan Merdeka Selatan, and Jalan Medan Merdeka Timur.
While at the west side can pass across Jalan KH Mas Mansyur and Jalan Abdul Muis, Tanah Abang.
