Facing Pemilu and Pilkada 2024, Ariza Emphasizes Good Preparation and Stability

Jakarta Deputy Governor Ahmad Riza Patria attended the morning assembly for the readiness of General Election (Pemilu) supervisors which was held by the Jakarta General Election Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu) at Tebet Eco Park, South Jakarta, Monday (5/23) morning.

The complexities faced in Pemilu 2024 require more serious and systematic anticipation of institutional handling and solutions

He hoped the complexity of the simultaneous regional election 2024 scenario could be anticipated institutionally more seriously and systematically to maintain stability.

"The complexities faced in Pemilu 2024 require more serious and systematic anticipation of institutional handling and solutions. With readiness and self-evaluation, God willing, we will be able to anticipate various challenges and problems that occur during the campaign until the election," he said in his remarks, as quoted from Jakarta PPID Press Release.

He hoped that the morning assembly could be momentum to educate the public to increase public awareness and encourage them to participate in elections actively and responsibly.

"This educational process can be carried out by encouraging the public to be involved in preventing and rejecting all forms of election violations, such as money politics. This is not an easy job, but I believe we can make the best of Pemilu 2024," he stated.

Besides, he also advised all levels of election supervisors within Bawaslu from the state level to the city level, all government officials, and relevant stakeholders to strengthen their roles in the preparation process until the implementation thus Pemilu 2024 could run well and orderly.

Regarding the development of democracy in Indonesia, he assessed that DKI Jakarta is the most democratic province for four consecutive years (quattrick) from 2017 to 2020, although there were fluctuations along the way. He ensured that Jakarta as a city of dynamic collaboration would strive to maintain the trust.

"Moreover, as a business center, media center, and trade, Jakarta can be called as one of the areas that get the most spotlight from various media regarding the preparation and continuity of the election," he added.

He also conveyed that everything related to supporting the continuity of election must be well prepared, from planning programs, budgets, and drafting regulations, to updating voter data which is always a concern of observers.

On the same occasion, he emphasized that the Jakarta Government fully supports the implementation of Pemilu 2024 as well as possible. He also gave encouraging support to the supervisors and all parties involved in preparing for the elections.

"Hopefully, it can run smoothly, democratically, and produce leaders who are truly trustworthy in working for the welfare of the Indonesian people. I hope all supervisors from regional and national levels can do their duties well," he expressed.

In addition, he also appreciated Jakarta Bawaslu's initiatives to hold morning assemblies as the initial step in carrying out their duties for the implementation of the General Election (Pemilu) and Regional Head Election (Pilkada) 2024.

"We will soon welcome the democratic party again in 2024. The next two years will be a historic momentum for the journey of democracy for Indonesia. For the first time, and the only one in the world, Indonesia will hold general elections and regional elections simultaneously. Referring to Law No. 7/2017, the election stages must begin 20 months before the voting day or on June 14, 2022. With the high workload and targets for the election plan, several factors should be considered and demand the attention of all parties, especially election organizers.

For information, the morning assembly was also attended by DPR Commission II Member Yanuar Prihatin, Indonesian Election Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu) Chairperson Rahmat Bagja, Jakarta Bawaslu Chairperson Muhammad Jufri, and Jakarta Bawaslu Member Siti Rahman.
