North Jakarta Intensifies Tight Monitoring on Foot-and-mouth Disease Spreads

Cattle farmers are lately worried about the threat to their business amid the recent outbreaks of foot-and-mouth (FMD) disease in Indonesia, especially in North Jakarta.

The sacrificial animals that come in and will be sold must be completely free from disease

Seeing that case, the North Jakarta Maritime, Agriculture, and Food Security (KPKP) Sub-agency is set to hold tight monitoring on the supply, shelter, and location of the sale of sacrificial animals.

According to Unang Rustanto, Sub-agency Head of North Jakarta KPKP, his sub-agency would implement some administrative and technical requirements for animals supplied from outside the city.

"The sacrificial animals that come in and will be sold must be completely free from disease. We will focus on monitoring," he expressed, Tuesday (5/23).

For administrative requirements, he explained the animal must have an animal health certificate and an animal origin certificate or export permit issued by the regional veterinary authority of the animal origin.

Then, recommendations for animal importation from the North Jakarta Investment and One-Stop Integrated Service (PTSP) Sub-agency through the jakevo.Jakarta.go.id application.

"For technical requirements, the animal from the region must be free of FMD and declared healthy based on the results of an examination by a veterinarian or veterinary paramedic under the supervision of an authorized veterinarian, and not showing clinical symptoms of FMD," he concluded.
