Approaching Christmas, Beef Demands Rocketing

Ahead of Christmas and 2015 New Year, the demand for meat in the market keeps creeping up. It causes the beef price in some traditional markets increased.

Based on beritajakarta.com observations, peddlers in Kramatjati Market admitted that the demand for meat has increased since four days ago, thus there is a rise in earnings.

Beef Price Remains Stable

"We usually sell meat Rp 97,000/kg and now increase Rp 100,000/kg and distinctive meat from Rp 110,000/kg to Rp 120,000/kg. Indeed there is a price hike," expressed Sugeng (47), a meat peddler on the 2nd floor of Block D Kramatjati Market, Friday (12/19).

He told it causes peddlers' earnings increased 40 percent. "On regular days, we just get Rp 5 million per day, and now Rp 8 million per day," he told.

Meanwhile, Head of Domestic Trading Section for East Jakarta Cooperatives, Micro, Small and Medium Scale Enterprises and Trade Sub-Department (KUMKMP), Jhony Siregar disclosed his sub-department has received a report on beef price hikes. "This is reasonable in welcoming Christmas and New Year celebrations," he assessed.
