Rawa Bening Market Will Hold Bacan Stone Contest on June 12

The Rawa Bening Market which is known as the center of gemstone market in Jatinegara, East Jakarta is about to hold the Bacan Stone contest on June 12. To support it, the East Jakarta Tourism and Creative Economy (Parekraf) Sub-agency has reviewed the situation in the market.

East Jakarta Parekraf Sub-agency Head Ahmad Gozali expressed his support and ensured to help organize the contest which was initiated by market administrators, traders, and gemstone enthusiasts.

According to him, the contest would not only enhance traders' economy but also revive the prestige of Rawa Bening Market as the center for selling gemstones, agates, heirlooms, and precious stones, which had previously been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Jakarta Gems Center in Jatinegara is Getting Busier

"Rawa Bening Market is one of the urban tourist attractions in Jakarta. After the pandemic, creative economy activities in this market have started to run well," he mentioned, Friday (6/3).

As one of Jakarta's icons, he continued, Rawa Bening Market also welcomed foreign tourists to visit the market, especially during the Formula E event which would be held from Saturday (6/4).

Rawa Bening Market Head Ahmad Subhan added, that at the Bacan Stone contest, there were various types of Bacan Stones displayed in the event, such as Bacan Obi, Pancawarna, Doko, and Palamea belonging to several collectors. According to him, there are still many gemstone enthusiasts who hunt for Bacan Stones in this market.

"Hopefully, this can bring back the Rawa Bening Market as an icon of Jakarta," he asserted.
