Day and World Environment Day 2022.We will reduce carbon emissions by 30 percent
In the commemoration with the theme 'Action of a Million Bikes in Indonesia', the Governor appreciated the cycling movement and participated in cycling with dozens of people from the Bundaran HI to the Jakarta City Hall on Sunday (6/5) morning.
"Let's send a message throughout Indonesia, let's make our skies blue together, the environment is clean and healthy, as well as we can all pay back for our earth," he expressed in his speech, as quoted by Jakarta PPID's press release.
Jakarta Builds JXB Bike Lounge to Support Bicycles as Eco-Friendly TransportationIn the economic and ecological sectors over the past few decades, he assessed, there had been quite a complicated conflict that had an impact on environmental degradation. It was because the economy is growing, but the ecology is down. Because of that, Jakarta was actively involved to save the environment through various policies.
"Economy and ecology come from the same word, namely Oikos, both of which talk about family and it is time for economy and ecology to go hand in hand. Jakarta will start all of these efforts," he explained.
"So, we convey our commitment in 2020 that we will reduce carbon emissions by 30 percent. Alhamdulillah, we have reached 26 percent this year. In 2050, we will achieve net zero-emission," he continued.
To achieve it, the first is to add green areas for clean air production and the second is to reduce emissions. One of them is the use of bicycles for daily activities.
Aside that, the Jakarta administration also brought together a movement to raise public awareness, as the responsibility for saving the environment lies with every individual.
"We are here to start a new history for Jakarta and Indonesia, this is a movement. That means that each of us has a responsibility and a role. It's not just a program, and we are the leaders of our environmental movement and we are happy to participate in facilitating this activity," he added.
He then closed his remarks by giving the meaning of bicycles.
"Bike can't go backward, so you have to keep going. It also doesn't leave residue and throughout the journey must be stable which is attempted by continuously pedaling by the movement of our own feet, not by the engine. That's roughly the message we get from cycling," hs closed.
