The Jakarta Environment (LH) Agency held a collaboration festival in the context of World Environment Day with the theme “Clean Air for Jakarta” at Tebet Eco Park, on Sunday (6/5). The event had a main message, namely collective action to improve air quality in Jakarta.

"The issue of air pollution is important so we include it in our priority program. We have made various efforts, such as launching a sustainable mobility policy that can reduce air pollution and is also part of our strategy to achieve net-zero emissions," he expressed, as quoted by Jakarta PPID's press release.

Environment Agency Head Asep Kuswanto added that support from other parties was also needed to achieve cleaner Jakarta air, even though the government had made maximum efforts.

"With this event, hope it can be the first step to form our collaboration together to create clean air in Jakarta," he concluded.

In the event, the Jakarta administration invited the public to campaign for the importance of clean air by collaborating through the Clean Air Festival for Jakarta at Tebet Eco Park on Sunday (6/5) from 7 AM to 6 PM.

It was enlivened with a talk show with the Development and Environment Assistant Afan Adriansyah Idris who represented the Governor; Environmental Agency Head Asep Kuswanto; as well as Vital Strategies and ITDP Indonesia.

There were also musical performances by local musicians and DJs, mural installations, and pop-up activations from the community with the theme of encouraging more friendly behavior towards Jakarta's air, such as exhibitions on electric bikes and motorbikes, solar panels, and mini talk shows related to urban planning and quality air.

Closing the peak event, the administration also launched a digital campaign and podcast series on the Instagram account @udaraCleanjakarta, which was spearheaded by the Environment Agency and Vital Strategies as the implementing partner of Bloomberg Philanthropies. For offline activities, HHL also carries out a pre-event for Gowes Ke Taman (cycling to the park) which is coordinated by ITDP Indonesia and the Ayo Ke Taman community.

Based on the Environmental Agency's study in 2020, the biggest source of air pollution in Jakarta is the transportation sector for pollutants PM2.5, PM10, NOx, and CO. Meanwhile, the industrial sector is the largest source of SO2 pollutants.

Thus far, Jakarta is preparing a Grand Design for Air Pollution Control (GDPPU) which consists of various strategies to improve air quality in Jakarta. It is part of the implementation of the decision on the air pollution lawsuit in Jakarta which was decided by the Jakarta District Court on September 16, 2021.
