As many as 5,942 people from Jakarta and its surrounding areas flock to the National Monument (Monas), Gambir, Central Jakarta, to spend long weekend holiday in welcoming the Christmas. From that number, 4,164 people pack the Monas' cup and 1,778 others go up to the top of the Monas.

"Yesterday or December 25, the number of visitors was higher or reaching 11,181 people. 9,159 of them packed the Monas's cup and 2,422 others went to the top of the Monas," reported Head of Monas Management Unit, Rini Hariani, Friday (12/26).

She explained most visitors are from Jakarta, Tangerang, Depok, Bogor, Bekasi, Bandung, Garut, Bali, Sumatera and Kalimantan. "Foreign tourist also packed our site. Hopefully, they impressed after visiting the Monas," she stated.

Based on beritajakarta.com observations, since morning, thousands of visitors have thronged the ticket counters. Although the air is pretty hot, but it does not deter visitors to see a very historic monument.

Nia Arnita (21), one of visitors from Garut admitted it is her first time visited Monas. According to her, besides cheap, the place is also full of historical value.

"All this time, I just read about history via internet. But here (Monas), I can see and read a proclamation text directly," she told.
