Minimarket Review Applied to Protect Traditional Market, Djarot Says

Jakarta Provincial Government is serious about the planning to limit the minimarket presence in the capital. The Vice Governor of Jakarta, Djarot Saiful Hidajat, will meet with the Trade Minister, Rachmat Gobel to talk about it.

The meeting time was already arranged

This policy is taken since the presence of minimarket threats the traditional market survival. "The meeting time was already arranged," Djarot said, Tuesday (1/6).

According to him, this plan will not restrict all minimarket business, but it only arranges how the minimarket will not harm traditional market much.

E. Jakarta Mayor Prioritizing Street Vendors Arrangement

Djarot admitted he is still waiting the minimarket data from urban village and sub-district heads. The data will be used as a reference about which minimarket that violates Bylaw No 2/2002 about Private Market. "I ask them to do it fast," he added.

The bylaw manages modern markets with 200 meter square of width must have minimum distance by 500 meters from traditional market. While the modern market with 200-1,000 meter square of width must have minimum distance by 1 km. The supermarket or hypermarket have minimum distance by 2.5 km.
