Djarot: We should Process Garbage into Fertilizer

Jakarta Vice Governor, Djarot Saiful Hidajat, wants the traditional market becomes compost processing center. It is aimed to reduce the waste volume dumped to Bantargebang Integrated Waste Management Facility, Bekasi, West Java.

"Since the traditional market produces more garbage, I hope the traditional market is able to manage garbage into compost," Djarot said, Tuesday (12/30).

According to him, 80 percent of Kramatjati Market, East Jakarta is an organic waste. Managing waste into something useful, such as compost, will give another benefit for market management.

As the fertilizer distribution, Djarot suggested it could be sold to Jakarta Dept. of City Park and Cemetery. It is because the department manages hundreds of park and should need fertilizer.

Regarding the maximum fine of Rp 500 thousand for people who littering, it will be adjusted at the scene.

"If they dispose a bed, so we apply maximum fine. Other fines should be Rp 300 thousand or Rp 350 thousand," he continued.

Many residents become a volunteer to monitor waste disposal. They called themselves with waste police. "They will sweep their people. Just take a picture of them and reported to related unit," he disclosed.
