Flood Anticipation, Residents Start to Evacuate Their Goods

Heavy rainfall intensity since last week starts to flood some citizen’s settlement in Pesanggrahan riverbank with average height of 30 centimeters.

Hundreds of families who live around the area, precisely in RW 05 Kedoya Selatan Urban Village, Kebon Jeruk, West Jakarta start to worry if the rain does not stop and inundate their settlement.

To avoid flooding that could come suddenly; people finally started packing their valuables thing and moved to safe location. Meanwhile, most of the other residents started moving their house furnishings such as cabinets, refrigerators, televisions and other electronic goods to the second floor of their house.

Flooding Warning Devices Installed in Ulujami

"Because the Pesanggarahan river overflow began to inundate the streets. I intended to move goods quicker to my relation house due to fear of the flood that could come suddenly," said Suarti (51), a resident of RT 02/05, Kedoya Urban Village, Tuesday (1/13).

Meanwhile, RW 05 Head, Sumardi Ramelan explained heavy rainfall began inundating resident houses in RT 02 and RW 04. Both RTs are precisely adjacent to the Pesanggrahan riverbank.

"14 of 16 RTs here are prone to flood with a height of 1-2 meters. The residents have packed up their belongings since last week," explained Ramelan.

West Jakarta Mayor, Anas Effendi admitted, they have prepared all needs and supplies to help residents of RW 05 Kedoya Selatan Urban Village, when their settlement is flooded.

"We've prepared all needs and supplies to residents. The flood that inundated settlement came from Bogor," said Anas.
