The Jakarta administration is committed to providing protection for women and children from various forms of violence and sexual harassment.
This incident proves that Jakarta has a zero-tolerance policy against violence against women
Its commitment is realized in various programs and in collaboration with various parties, including the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).
It is in line with one of the main thematic areas 'Urban 20 - 2022 Cycle Agenda: Post-Pandemic Cities', UNDP, and the administration collaborated to kick off a U20 2022 side event at the Fairmont Hotel Jakarta, Tuesday (8/30).

At that time, the Governor appreciated this discussion as it discussed Service Innovation in the Prevention and Overcoming of Gender Base Violence (GBV) as Part of Inclusive Social Recovery in Jakarta.
It is because recently in Jakarta, there had been violence against women by PPSU elements, despite in the end the administration took firm steps by dismissing the officer and submitting the case to the police.
"This incident proves that Jakarta has a zero-tolerance policy against violence against women, which is reflected in our policy which includes end-to-end efforts ranging from prevention to rehabilitation. Even, we always actively run campaigns to combat GBV and invite all mayors here to participate in this campaign through various information and communication media," he expressed, as quoted by Jakarta PPID's press release, Tuesday (8/30).
Aside that, from the beginning, the city has included the protection of women and children in the classification of regional strategic activities and included in the strategic activities of every Regional Apparatus Organization (OPD) in Jakarta.
"This is to make Jakarta able to protect four vulnerable groups, namely the elderly, people with disabilities, women, and children. If they can be protected well, protection for all Jakarta residents will also work well," he explained.
Some of these programs included the Integrated Service Center for the Empowerment of Women and Children (P2TP2A) which has ISO standards to a rapid reaction unit with 24-hour service.
There were also complaint posts at 19 locations throughout Jakarta, Rumah Aman (safe house), and Jakarta Siaga (Jakarta standby) on 112. Surely, these various programs need support from various sectors of society.
Collaboration with UNDP can strengthen public services to protect women and children. UNDP has made Jakarta a pilot area since 2017 in strengthening access to public services for victims of Gender Based Violence through a series of complementary interventions with full support from the Japan Government and the Seoul Policy Center (USPC).
As part of the inclusive curbing of Covid-19, the UNDP strengthened Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for services during the pandemic at P2TP2A (Integrated Service Centers for the Empowerment of Women and Children), General Hospitals and PPA Units (Women and Children Services), as well as setting up the Postal Unit for Friends of Women and Children (Pos SAPA) in various communities, public transportation and universities in support of a safe and sustainable city agenda, with the support of the Supplementary Budget from Japan.
Even, the city and UNDP are aware that Urban 20 (U20) can be a strong platform for sharing knowledge and collaborating with city leaders in overcoming socio-economic and environmental barriers as an effort for sustainable economic and social recovery after the pandemic.
