Jakarta's inflation of 1.21 percent is the highest inflation rate achieved since the beginning of the pandemic

One important note is the surge in inflation due to the new price policy in the energy sector.

"Jakarta's inflation of 1.21 percent is the highest inflation rate achieved since the beginning of the pandemic, in 2019 until after the pandemic in 2022," he expressed.

The spike in inflation was an important note in the economic field considering inflation was quite low during the last four years and even caused deflation. "If we compare year-on-year inflation during September 2022, which was recorded at 4.61 percent, much higher than the inflation rate for the same month in 2019 was 3.72 percent, 2020 was 1.76 percent, and 2021 was 1.14 percent," he explained.

Based on the expenditure group, the biggest contributor to inflation in Jakarta was the transportation group, which was 0.95 percent; food, beverage, and tobacco at 0.09 percent; and provision of food and beverages/restaurants by 0.04 percent.

Generally, the cause of rising inflation in September 2022 is the new price policy in the energy sector. Several important commodities that contributed to inflation in September 2022 were gasoline and diesel which became the main drivers of inflation in the transportation category with their respective shares of 0.772 percent and 0.022 percent.

Further, transportation services within the city are 0.079 percent, filter kretek cigarettes are 0.026 percent, air transportation services are 0.025 percent, and household fuel is 0.023 percent.
