December, Revitalization of Gambir Station - Medan Merdeka Pedestrian Completed

The Jakarta Bina Marga Agency continues to speed up the pedestrian revitalization in Gambir Train Station and Medan Merdeka Selatan areas, precisely on Jalan Medan Merdeka Timur (on the side of the station) and Jalan Medan Merdeka Selatan.

It is targeted to be completed by the end of this year

The pedestrian length of Jalan Merdeka Timur which is laid out is approximately 650 meters, while Jalan Medan Merdeka Selatan is about 150 meters.

Jakarta Bina Marga Agency Head, Hari Nugroho said, as a central office and business destination, the Gambir Train Station and Medan Merdeka Selatan areas, Monas area, and Gambir Train Station transit point need to be supported by other public facilities with easy pedestrian access to various modes of public transportation.

"This area is connectivity between Transjakarta and train. Moreover,  there will be an MRT," he stated, Thursday (11/3).

He explained that the revitalization in the Gambir Station and Medan Merdeka Selatan areas also carried the concept of a complete street in the form of rearranging road space according to its function in an ideal and complete manner to accommodate all the needs of road users.

"Principally, the revitalization that accommodates needs by prioritizing pedestrians, cyclists, and public transportation users," he explained.

He added the progress of revitalizing the Gambir Train Station and Medan Merdeka Selatan Station area has now reached 20 percent.

"It is targeted to be completed by the end of this year," he stated.
