Azas Tigor Supports Strict Sanctions for Persons Involved in Illegal Parking

There must be an independent team to make detailed studies and recommendations

Transportation Observer, Azas Tigor Nainggolan strongly supports the efforts of the Jakarta Provincial Government in taking firm action against individuals involved in illegal parking in Jakarta.

According to him, firm action was needed to give a deterrent effect and comprehensively resolve the illegal parking problem.

Dishub to Strict Sanctions for Persons Involved in Illegal Parking

"Don't let illegal parking seem like a problem that can never be solved," he expressed, Tuesday (12/6).

Besides strict sanctions, he assessed punishment for persons involved in parking must be publicized, thus those who will engage in illegal parking practices will think twice.

"This is important I think. So, the public can also know what sanctions the person gets," he stated.

In this matter, the Transportation Agency (Dishub) must be optimized to prevent illegal parking through optimal guarding in vulnerable areas.

"As we know, we have Transportation Executing Unit in each sub-district. They can also synergize with elements of the local national army (TNI)/police. Moreover, the Acting Governor has built and exemplified this synergy since its inception," he explained.

He explained that the legal basis related to driving or parking regulations must be properly implemented. As a reference, there is Law No. 2/2009 on Road Traffic and Transportation.

There are Bylaw No. 5/2014 on Transportation and Gubernatorial Regulation No. 31/2017 on Parking Service Fees, Fines for Transaction Violations, and Fees for Towing/Moving Motorcycle.

"I really support him to overcome traffic jams in Jakarta. Hope all levels of the Dishub will make this matter a priority scale," he stressed.

Regarding the on-street parking policy on several certain roads, it also needs to be evaluated further.

"There must be an independent team to make detailed studies and recommendations," he exclaimed.

Moreover, optimal parking management has the potential to increase Local Revenue (PAD).

"Parking has a very large turnover. I have been doing research since 2007. I really hope that the parking money can be used to incentivize public transportation users, for example, to take the Transjakarta bus for free," he said.
