Rail-Based Mass Transportation System Prepared to Face Traffic Jam

Various ways to minimize traffic congestion in the capital keep being intensified by Jakarta Provincial Government. One of them is by building a rail-based mass transportation.

If you don't have a rail-based mass transportation system, your city will definitely jammed

For this year, the Tanjung Priok-Kota's railway tracks will begin to function. Likewise with road towards Soekarno-Hatta Airport, will be equipped with rails in 2016 where its construction managed by Transportation Ministry. As for the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) project, is also under construction phase.

"If you don't have a rail-based mass transportation system, your city will definitely jammed," said Jakarta Governor, Basuki 'Ahok' T Purnama, City Hall, Wednesday (2/4).

Ahok cited that Japan which already had a better system is still jammed. "And how about us? That's why we're still focusing on development of rail-based mass transportation in Jakarta," he expressed.

He uttered, with the current condition of Jakarta, the project would probably take about 30-40 years ahead. "Moreover, there are still many problems beyond the project. Fortunately my blood pressure is low. If not, I could suffer a stroke," he exclaimed.

As for the information, a lubricant company, Castrol cooperates with TomTom as navigation provider has released many cities that are deemed as having a high level of congestion.

Such list is called the Castrol Magnetic Stop-Start Index. In the index, Castrol will count how many times the average time required by the vehicle to stop and start per day. If it is done many times, severe jam will happen.

There are 78 cities in the world included on the index. In details, Jakarta is ranked in the highest stop-start activity, that is 33,240 per year. This amount is above the average that should be 18,000 per year. There are 3 marks given by Castrol, namely red, green and yellow. Jakarta and Surabaya included in red category.
