Torrential rain that flushed Jakarta and its surrounding area since Monday (2/9), has inundated 104 schools. Those schools are ranging from Kindergarten (TK), State Junior High School (SMPN), State Senior High School (SMAN), until Vocational School (SMK).

Most the inundated schools are located in East Jakarta, North Jakarta, and West Jakarta

Fortunately, the inundation in most of the schools has begun to recede and has started its teaching and learning activities as usual.

Head of Jakarta Education Department, Arie Budhiman said that the rainwater hit 47 buildings of Kindergaten, 10 buildings of SMPN, 27 buildings of SMAN, 16 buildings of SMK and 1 building of Community Learning Activity Center (PKBM).  

"Most the inundated schools are located in East Jakarta, North Jakarta, and West Jakarta," he told, Friday (2/13).

He details among of those Kindergaten schools are As Saadah and Riyadus Shalihin. While the elementary schools are Kwitang 01, Kramat 02, Kemayoran, Cempaka Baru 03, Kapuk Muara 01, Jatinegara 10 and Kayu Putih 09 pagi.

"As for the junior high school buildings are SMPN 10, SMPN 183, SMPN 232, and SMPN 140. Then for senior high schools consist of SMAN 27, SMAN 77, SMAN 13, SMAN 111, SMAN 7, and SMAN 96. Lastly, vocational schools are Pusaka 1, Diponegoro 2, and East Jakarta PKBM 33," he told.

He explained the condition has forced school management to stop the teaching and learning activities. "We stop the activity on Monday (2/9) and active again tomorrow, like SMAN 8. Due to inundation, some students cannot go to school," he expressed.

According to Budhiman, as many as 5 schools also serve as refugee camps. However, the teaching process still continues to run.

Those five schools consist of SMAN 76 at Jalan Tipar Cakung (East Jakarta) and SMKN 54 at Bendungan Jago area, Kemayoran (Central Jakarta), SDN Bidara Cina 03 pagi, as well as SDN Kampung Melayu 01 Pagi and SDN Kampung Melayu 02 Petang (East Jakarta).
