Floods Hit 15 Schools in West Jakarta, Start to Recede

Flood has inundated 15 buildings of State Senior High School (SMAN) and Elementary School (SD) that spread all over West Jakarta. On average, the water level reached 40-70 centimeters and forcing teachers to stop the learning and teaching activities (KBM) until the situation back to normal.

SMA Section Region II Head for West Jakarta Education Sub-Department, Ismoyo disclosed in region II, there are 15 SMANs inundated. "Due to high water, we had to stop the learning and teaching activities," he expressed, Wednesday (2/11).

He told, many schools were built in flood-prone areas, like SMAN 95 Kalideres that has been submerged as high as 60 centimeters.

Flood Receded, Refugees Return to Home

"Today the weather is sunny, and the floodwaters have receded gradually," he stated.

Nevertheless, he added, his side does not know when the schools will be active again. "We're still waiting for a report from each school. If the flood is receded, the schools will be active soon," stressed Ismoyo.

On the other hand, SD Section Region II Head for West Jakarta Education Sub-Department, Syamsudin Mansyur added 8 SDNs are flooded as high as 40-90 centimeters.
