Heru Prompts Public Participation in Low-Emission Development in Jakarta

There are 5 main actions, namely energy efficiency, expanding the use of New and Renewable Energy (EBT), substituting eco-friendly fuels, shifting towards dominating the use of public transportation, and mainstreaming pedestrians and cyclists. Of the several recommendations given to reduce carbon gas, Jakarta has and is implementing them," he expressed, as quoted by Jakarta PPID's press release.

He explained the implementation of the 5 main actions has seen tangible benefits, such as zero-emission school construction in 4 elementary schools and 1 high senior school, as well as Daan Mogot Flats have been certified to achieve a Green Building Certificate.

In the future, it was targeted to expand the implementation of green building principles in local government buildings and low-cost housing, including 20 schools that would implement the zero-emission school concept.

In the action to replace environmentally friendly fuels, the efforts that have been made include vehicle taxes and vehicle ownership transfer fees (BBNKB) for electric vehicles and the operation of electric buses by PT Transjakarta in stages.

This year, based on Presidential Instruction No. 7/2022, the Jakarta Government has initiated the provision of electric cars for officials. One of the sentences in Presidential Decree No. 7/2022 is that local governments must take the initiative to procure electric vehicles. We'll carry out those instructions." he explained.

In the transitional action towards dominating the use of public transportation, the Jakarta Government is optimizing the integration of stations with other public transportation modes, expanding MRT Phase 2, 3, and 4 service network, Velodrome-Manggarai LRT phase, and Bus Rapid Transit, including the development of transit-based areas (TOD). In implementing the fifth action related to the mainstreaming of pedestrians and non-motorized vehicles, Jakarta continues to develop sidewalk revitalization and implement low-emission areas.

Jakarta builds and develops RPTRAs in various regions. Thus far, there have been 324 RPTRAs in 6 administrative cities/districts. Additionally, the development of new renewable energy becomes more effective, efficient, and affordable," he stated.
