PT Transportasi Jakarta (Transjakarta) has an ambitious plan to expand a fleet of electric-based buses to reduce carbon emissions as one of the strategies to improve air quality in Jakarta.
We are now conducting a study on a retrofitting or conversion program
"We have operated 54 units and are targeted to increase up to 100 electric buses operating in Jakarta by the end of 2023," expressed PT Transjakarta President Director, Welfizon Yuza, on the sidelines of a press conference in Central Jakarta, Saturday
(8/19).He explained it refers to Governor Decree Number 1053/2022 on Guidelines for the Acceleration of Programs for Use of Battery-Based Electric Motorized Vehicles in Transjakarta Transportation Services.

Thus, hopefully there will be an acceleration of the electrification process," he explained.
By 2027, it is targeted that around 50 percent of the Transjakarta fleet will be electricity-based and 100 percent in 2030. To achieve it, additional 500 large and medium-sized electric-based buses were needed in 2024 and 2025 around 1,000 electric buses coming from procurement and retrofitting.
"Travel using private vehicles that switch to electric buses will have an impact on reducing carbon emissions by around 99 percent," he expressed.
He urged the public to immediately use public transportation as a form of concrete action to support air quality improvement.
"Users of private cars or motorbikes who switch to public transport, namely Transjakarta buses, will experience a reduction of around 83 to 94 percent in the transition of each trip. This decrease is very significant," he continued.
He added PT Transjakarta is also aggressively implementing the second strategy, namely, carbon offset by embracing all stakeholders, both operators and ATPM, to plant trees.
"Next week, we'll also invite customers and work with ethnic carbon who will facilitate the planting of mangroves on the coast of Jakarta. All Transjakarta bus stops and buses will have a QR link that can be used to contribute to this activity," he uttered.
