Heru Targets Jakarta Contingent as General Champion of Popnas XVI

The Jakarta Acting Governor is targeting the Jakarta contingent to emerge as the overall champion at the XVI National Student Sports Week (Popnas) in Palembang, South Sumatra, from August 25 to September 4, 2023.

There will be 350 athletes participating in all sports that will be competed in the largest student-level multi-event sports competition in Indonesia every two years.

"Hope to be the overall champion. Take care of health and sportsmanship," he expressed, Wednesday (8/23).

As for the information, the Popnas XVI will compete in 22 sports, namely weightlifting, athletics, bike racing, basketball, indoor volleyball, badminton, rowing, judo, karate, kempo, shooting, archery, rock climbing, martial arts, swimming, artistic gymnastics and rhythmic, takraw, soccer, taekwondo, tennis, boxing and wushu.

The Jakarta contingent is about to compete in all the sports that are contested and will send 604 people consisting of 350 athletes, 47 coaches, 45 assistant coaches, and the rest are strength and conditioning coaches, managers, sports doctors, sports therapists, nurses, physiotherapists, nutritionists, psychologists, monitoring and evaluation personnel, as well as and officials.

"We must win," he stressed.

Jakarta Youth and Sports Agency Secretary, Hendra Eka Permana wanted all Jakarta student athletes competing in Popnas to be able to fight and give their best to win gold medals.

"It will be very helpful later because there is an achievement path for continuing education. In addition, as usual, medal-winning athletes will be given appreciation or bonuses from the Jakarta Government," he stated.
