Heru Collaborates with Polda Metro Jaya to Succeed ASEAN Summit

The Jakarta Provincial Government is currently preparing for the ASEAN Summit to be held on September 5-7, 2023 in Jakarta. Hence, synergy with various parties is a must, including with the community, to smoothen the conference of Southeast Asian countries.

I urge all levels of society and offices to adapt

Jakarta Acting Governor, Heru Budi Hartono encouraged all residents to follow and participate in every policy issued by the government during the ASEAN Summit.

"We (Jakarta Government) and Polda Metro Jaya would like to encourage and urge all elements and levels of society to work together well when the ASEAN Summit takes place," he expressed, at Jakarta City Hall, Wednesday (8/24).

WFH-WFO Work System, BKD: Public Services Continue to Operate as Usual

One of the policies that have been issued to parse traffic congestion and air pollution ahead of the ASEAN Summit is implementing 50 percent of civil servants to work from home (WFH)  from August 21 to October 21, 2023. Then, the quota will be increased by 75 percent to government offices near the ASEAN Summit location.

Then on September 4-7, the Jakarta Government has implemented a distance learning policy for schools in Central and South Jakarta areas. It is enforced because the accommodation and activity centers for the ASEAN Summit delegates will be in the area of Jalan Jenderal Sudirman, Jalan MH Thamrin, Jalan Gatot Subroto, and Gelora Bung Karno (GBK).

"I urge all levels of society and offices to adapt. Because, besides having this policy, there will be traffic diversion during the ASEAN Summit. In fact, some roads will be completely closed within two hours. This creates inconvenience for people who are active on September 5-7. So, I urge the public to manage their respective activities according to the established rules and policies," he expressed.

As a socialization step to office building managers in Central and South Jakarta areas, he was set to hold meetings with several hotel associations, shopping centers, and offices. That way, they could implement WFH policies and not carry out activities that invite large numbers of people during the ASEAN Summit taking place in Jakarta.

"Polda Metro Jaya traffic Directorate and several stakeholders will evaluate this policy. Because these road closures are massive, they will certainly disrupt community activities. So, tomorrow there will be another meeting, maybe there will be additional policies or new policies that will be taken," he explained.

Polda Metro Jaya Traffic Directorate Chief, Com. Latif Usman explained the road sections that need to be anticipated for securing traffic flow were Jalan Jenderal Sudirman, Jalan MH Thamrin, Jalan Gatot Subroto, and access roads to and from Soekarno-Hatta Airport. Then, the road sections that also receive big attention are toll roads, namely Jakarta Outer Ring Road (JORR) on north side and JORR on the south side.

Then his party also paid great attention to the roads which would be points during the implementation of activities. Security would be taken over by the Polda Metro Jaya together with Satpol PP and Jakarta Transportation Agency (Dishub).

"Especially, we will sterilize the Sudirman, Thamrin, Gatot Subroto route from community activities that could disrupt the ASEAN Summit. For instance, at Bundaran HI at night, there must be empty from people activities. Likewise, we will carry out operational activities along Jalan Sudirman-Thamrin. With Dishub and Satpol PP, we will routinely carry out the control. So, we are truly prepared and anticipating disturbances that hinder traffic," he added.

Polda Metro Jaya would then escort and regulate the traffic of the guest delegates from the airport, lodgings, and the ASEAN Summit activity venues for the sake of security. The ASEAN Summit activities take place at some points, such as the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC), Mulia Hotel, City Forest Platform, and Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII).

Specifically at TMII, his party would implement a policy for heavy vehicles, namely not being able to cross the inner city toll road for 2x24 hours or on September 5-6. In addition, to anticipate incidentals, an alternative route has been prepared to the emergency evacuation site, namely Pusat Pertamina Hospital, Gatot Subroto Army Hospital, and Harapan Kita Hospital.

"Hopefully, we can understand this policy together for the success of our big celebration event. All of this must be known by the community, later through the TMC, we will inform the community about developments in the activities of this delegation. Of course, the adjustments made will disrupt people's mobility, but hopefully with this earlier notification the community will be able to understand," he closed.
