Various efforts will be taken by South Jakarta Administration to prevent the spread of dengue fever in South Jakarta, one of them by imposing social sanction to citizens if mosquito larvae found in their home.
T hey will ensure the citizens to be sanctioned if they found mosquito larvae in citizen's home
"It could be applied based on citizens' agreement. Moreover, in each region there are also voluntary larvae controllers (jumantik). So, if the mosquito larvae found in their area, the citizens can be sanctioned by the agreement," said Syamsuddin Noor, South Jakarta Mayor, Tuesday (3/17).
According to Shamsuddin, this policy could encourage citizens, especially for conducting mosquito breeding eradication (PSN) in citizen's environment. So, not only the government, but the citizen also can support actively in pressing the dengue fever cases.
Dengue Fever Attacked 343 People in S. Jakarta"We hoped by this sanction could encourage the citizen to take prevention by doing 3 M (drain, bury, and close) in their own home. Moreover, if they done the activity properly and regularly, there will be no more mosquito larvae," said Noor.
Pondok Pinang Urban Village Head, Iwan Santoso revealed, his party had formed special task force (satgas) to help the jumantik. "We gather men as task force to monitor the citizen's home which is difficult to get permission or guarded by dogs. In addition, they will ensure the citizens to be sanctioned if they found mosquito larvae in citizen's home," he explained.
Furthermore, Santoso mentioned, although the task force existence is still limited, the citizens had agreed to be given social sanction.
"This is a pilot project to other regions. The sanctions will be related to the environment, for example, contribute flower pot for greening," told Santoso.
This sanction is lighter than the Regulation No. 6/2007 about Dengue Fever control. In Chapter VII, Article 21, paragraph 1 is mentioned, the citizens who found mosquito larvae in their home will be given a warning and imposed of Rp 50 million fines.
