30 Toddlers on Panggang Island Recover from Stunting

Seribu Islands Regent, Junaedi said as many as 30 out of 38 toddlers on Panggang Island, North Seribu Islands were recovered from stunting.

According to him, door-to-door monitoring was conducted to ensure the health condition of toddlers who experienced cases of stunting. It was also a manifestation of the Seribu Islands Regency administration's seriousness in paying attention to stunting sufferers in their area.

"Panggang Island is experiencing drastic changes. Initially, dozens of toddlers were identified as stunting. Now it's reduced," he expressed while conducting a work visit and monitoring stunting cases on Panggang Island, Tuesday (9/12).

Junaedi Monitors Stunted Toddlers on Pari Island

He explained the reduction in stunting rates occurred thanks to cooperation between regional government organizations (OPD) and the private sector which aggressively minimized stunting rates through the Joint Movement to Reduce Stunting (Geber Tuntas) and foster parents.

"Hopefully our efforts can help the central government in reducing stunting rates in Indonesia. Next week, I will also monitor other regions," he explained.

Panggang Island Urban Village Head, Muhammad Fakih Burhanudin explained, at the beginning of 2021, the number of stunted toddlers in his area reached 60 children, then decreased in 2022 to 49.

At the beginning of 2023, there were 38 recorded as experiencing stunting, which then decreased starting this September to 8.

"Thank you to all parties who have worked together to reduce stunting rates on Panggang Island," he expressed.

Faramita (35), a resident of RT 01/02, Panggang Island expressed his gratitude and was happy that his toddler, Fahyra Zikra Iskandar (3), was healthy again and had recovered from stunting.

He even received assistance in the form of milk and rice, which was very beneficial for his toddler's nutritional intake.

"Thank God, my child is becoming more active and his weight is also continuing to increase," he admitted.
