The School Transportation Management Unit (UPAS) for Jakarta Transportation Agency (Dishub), started to operate school buses for people with disabilities who use wheelchairs this year.
This bus is designed to create a sense of comfort and safety for students with disabilities
In the initial stage, as many as five buses have been operated. it is the Jakarta Provincial Government's commitment to build Jakarta as a city that is friendly to people with disabilities by providing several supporting facilities.
UPAS Head, Faris Budiman said the school bus for people with disabilities is free and operated to serve all disabled students who use wheelchairs in Jakarta.
Commission B: School Bus in Jakarta must Be Added"So far, the five buses have been serving students from SLBN 8 Rorotan, SLBN 9 Sunter, and SLB YPAC Kebayoran Baru," he expressed, Wednesday (1/17).
He explained the bus was specifically designed for wheelchair users, including strollers. There are 10 seats at the front, left and right facing each other, and at the back.
Like the school bus fleet in general that is already in operation, they also apply automatic door technology with sensors, thus the door will open again if something is blocked when it is about to close.
The bus uses a lifting system operated manually by pressing buttons, from lowering the ladder, pushing the wheelchair support onto the ladder, and raising it.
In the bus, wheelchairs will be tied with safety straps at the anchor points available on the fleet deck which are intended to prevent the chairs from moving when the bus is operating.
Each bus can accommodate seven students who use wheelchairs. It is also completed with surveillance cameras (CCTV) which are connected to the Main Control Room (RKU) at the UPAS Office, thus RKU officers can monitor all activities within the unit when carrying out services, including complete with a tactile floor or guiding block, which is useful as a walking guide for students with visual impairments.
“This bus is designed to create a sense of comfort and safety for students with disabilities. To procure it, we also involve the Jakarta High Prosecutor's Office's Strategic Development Security Team (PPS)," he stated.
