The Jakarta Legislative Council (DPRD) Commission B, instructed Jakarta Transportation Agency (Dishub) to add school bus in the capital city.
School buses should be added in untouched places
It aims to parse traffic jam where the existence of school buses is still limited in certain areas.
Commission B Member, Anthony Winza Probowo disclosed one of the causes of congestion in Jakarta comes from the school environment, as some schools do not have parking lots.
Wa Ode Supports Dishub's Plan to Shut Down 27 U-Turn PointsBecause of that, many parents of students pick up and drop off their children using private vehicles and park them on the road.
"School buses should be added in untouched places. During recess, I often receive complaints from parents who want to experience free school buses for their children," he expressed, Thursday (2/16).
He also proposed that the Dishub could engineer congestion concentration points in the school area. That is by making a drop-in/out spot at each school in order to avoid parked vehicles.
"I also hope that there will be engineering route-based school bus trips that can be directly connected to schools," he added.
Another member, Nur Afni Sajim explained her party had proposed a sizable school bus budget to add to the maintenance of the fleet.
"I once suggested to them (Dishub) to adjust the size of the school bus because many buses are in alleys. Moreover, the current size of the bus won't be able to enter or pass in front of their school," she stated.
The similar statement also came from another member, Gilbert Simanjuntak.
"School bus must be added to minimize congestion in school area," he stated.
