BBPOM: Smart People Consume Health Supplements!

The Center for Food Drug Monitoring (BBPOM) in Jakarta once again held drug and food education activities attended by 500 residents of Pasar Minggu Sub-district, South Jakarta, Friday (1/19).

It was attended by DPR Member, Kurniasih Mufidayati with the theme "Come on! Be a Smart Consumer Using Safe and Quality Health Supplements and Traditional Medicines".

Jakarta BBPOM Head, Sofiyani Chandrawati Anwar said that with changes in the fast-paced lifestyle of modern society and people's consumption patterns, the community encouraged the development of distribution and use of health supplement products.

"Health supplements are not only used to help meet nutritional needs, but also in conditions where nutritional needs increase, including during growth, pregnancy, and old age," she explained in a written statement.

Thus far, her party had still found health supplements in circulation that did not have distribution permits, especially those sold in e-commerce or online media.

Especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, the most common types of illegal vitamins found were vitamins D3 and C.

DPR Member, Kurniasih Mufidayati urged residents to be smart when buying medicine and food, including health supplements, which already have a Marketing Permit Number from BPOM.

"Let's be smart about consuming medicines and food, including health supplements, by checking CLICK, namely checking packaging, labels, distribution permits, and expiry," she explained.

Residents can check that medicines and food, including health supplements, have been registered using the BPOM Mobile application.

"Using the BPOM Mobile application makes it easier for residents to find out more quickly whether the product they want to consume is registered and safe to consume," he stated.
