Jakarta Provincial Government prepares Car Free Day (HBKB) as public area for all people. Jakarta Satpol PP Head, Arifin, said that car free day is intended for sport, environment, and cultural art activities.

Car free day implementation is based on Governor Regulation No 12/2016

"Car free day implementation is based on Governor Regulation No 12/2016 about Car Free Day Implementation. For those who want to hold an event during car free day, they must register to Car Free Day Working Committee which is led by Jakarta Transportation Agency Head. It is already managed under Governor Decree No 509/2016 about Car Free Day Working Team," Arifin said as quoted from Jakarta Provincial Government's press release, Monday (3/4).

Furthermore, he added, Jakarta Satpol PP respects the right to freedom of opinion for the community, including in carrying out humanitarian solidarity actions for Palestine. However, it is recommended that the implementation to follow the applicable regulations.

"We (Satpol PP) are ready to secure the activities of expressing opinions carried out by the community. In fact, the activity carried out by community during car free day, Sunday March 3, 2024, was not based on the regulation," he added.

That was why, Arifin continued, Satpol PP personnel appealed the community to move from car free day area, or continue the activity after car free day implementation was over.

"What we have done is already based on our main duty. We're upholding regional head regulation. It is aimed to maintain public order and comfort during car free day," Arifin closed.

Arifin also appealed to the public to understand and follow the provisions for carrying out activities in public spaces, especially during the implementation of car free day. If the public wants to hold activities during car free day, they can submit notification of their registration as activity participants, via the website hbkb.jakarta.go.id.
