Central Jakarta Satpol PP Head, Tumbul Purba explained the operation aimed to sterilize sidewalks occupied by street vendors and illegal parking.

"It aims to sterilize the sidewalk from street vendors (PKL), and motorbikes parked haphazardly or illegally," he expressed.

He explained his party imposed minor criminal sanctions against violators who erect buildings and street vendors. As for drivers caught in illegal parking, they were subject to OCP sanctions by Transportation Sub-agency officers.

He hoped it would have a deterrent effect, thus no more trespassing and occupying sidewalks. Their presence had also violated the rights of pedestrians and disabled groups.

"We never prohibit people from trading, but there is a place and don't occupy sidewalks intended for pedestrians and people with disabilities," he asserted.
