10,253 Qurban Animals' Health in Jakarta Examined for Idul Adha

As many as 100 inspectors for qurban animal health under the Jakarta Food Security, Maritime and Agricultural Agency (KPKP) have been deployed at various qurban animal shelters spread across Jakarta ahead of Idul Adha 1445 Hijri.

Overall, they are healthy and meet the requirements of qurban animals

They have been on standby since May 1, 2024.

Jakarta KPKP Agency Head, Suharini Eliawati said that as of May 31, 2024, as many as 10,253 qurban animals

25 Qurban Animals Undergo Health Examination for Idul Adha

in 117 animal shelters in Jakarta had undergone health examination. Most of them were cows, buffalo, goats, and sheep.

"Currently, all technical officers in the area have been deployed to inspect qurban animals that have arrived. Overall, they are healthy and meet the requirements of qurban animals," she expressed, Monday (6/3).

She explained those animals were distributed from Central Java and East Java, and some were from Lampung. Several animals from outside the area had entered shelters in Jakarta, experiencing trip stress, usually caused by long trips in hot weather conditions.

Aside that, her agency has been cooperating with the Subang Veterinary Center for testing blood samples ensuring that qurban livestock in Jakarta is free from zoonotic diseases.

"We give them medicines and vitamins to those who experience trip stress. Thus far, six animals have been detected with eye pain, diarrhea, and difficulty standing. However, we have not found any cases of animals contracting anthrax to date," she explained.

Predictably, shelters and the number of urban animals in Jakarta will keep increasing, as Jakarta needs approximately 61,000 sacrificial livestock, mainly cows and goats in the last two years.

Her agency had made internal and external coordination ahead of Idul Adha. External coordination was made with regional suppliers of qurban animals through veterinary authority officials (POV).

"So, we can ensure that all qurban animals entering Jakarta are healthy and complete with administrative documents. One of the internal coordination is with the Jakarta PMPTSP Agency because they are the ones who issue permits to import animals into Jakarta," she closed.
