Taman Sari Cultural Festival to Liven Up City's 497th Anniversary

To celebrate Jakarta's 497th Anniversary, the Taman Sari Betawi Community, in collaboration with the Jakarta Culture Agency, will hold a Taman Sari Cultural Festival, in the courtyard of the Taman Sari Urban Village Office, Jalan Mangga Besar IV, West Jakarta.

Taman Sari Urban Village Head, Abdul Malik Raharusun said the Taman Sari Betawi Community is slated to be held on Saturday (6/8) from 8 AM to 10 PM.

"Taman Sari Sub-district fully supports this event which was initiated by the Taman Sari Betawi Community," he expressed, Tuesday (6/4).

According to him, the event with the theme 'Jakarta, a Global City with Millions of Charms' would showcase the variety of culture and culinary delights in the Taman Sari area, which is a combination of Betawi, Chinese, and Arabic cultural elements.

The arts consist of Palang Pintu (door barriers ceremonies), Betawi Martial Arts, Barongsai (lion dance), fireworks, samrah dance, Betawi Selamat Datang dance, Lenong Betawi (tradition theater), Gambang Kromong (Betawi traditional music), marching band, and Betawi band.

As for the culinary, there will be dozens of Betawi and Indonesian culinary bazaar stands, such as Betawi Dodol (yummy fudge-like sweet), egg crust, cendol ice, cane cake, and Mangga Besar durian bazaar.

"Hopefully, it can liven up the tourism sector while preserving Betawi arts, culture, and culinary delights, thus they do not become extinct," he hoped.
