Heru Inspects Biogas Installation Using Cow Manure in Cikoko

Jakarta Acting Governor, Heru Budi Hartono inspected the biogas installation for a cattle farm in Cikoko Urban Village, Pancoran, South Jakarta, Friday (7/12). He saw firsthand the use of cow dung by residents into renewable energy.

This is quite good in environmental management

According to him, some residents in the Cikoko area have been registered as cattle breeders for generations. Previously, there were complaints from residents that farmers did not know how to manage cow dung.

Then the Jakarta Provincial Government was trying to overcome these environmental problems. The presence of processing cow dung into renewable energy is a solution, thus cow dung does not impact the surrounding environment.

"This is quite good in environmental management. Firstly, cattle breeders remain here. With good management, residents are not disturbed. This is an example of renewable energy which can be educational for many parties," he expressed, as quoted by Jakarta Government's press release, Friday (7/12).

The biogas installation will process cow dung waste consisting of feces and urine. After passing through the sewage reservoir, the methane gas will emerge. The gas is then collected and distributed through pipes to residents' houses around the cage.

"Gas is distributed to residents. Until now, there are 27 houses. For the time being, the gas is still free by the cooperative here. So, in the future, it will be charged Rp 30,000 per house per month. If residents usually use 2 LPG, yes, they can spend Rp 60,000, then will be withdrawn by Rp 30,000 and there is no usage limit, please just let residents use it," he explained.

There is also fertilizer from cow urine, which is sold for Rp 25,000, solid fertilizer from cow feces for Rp 10,000, and liquid fertilizer for Rp 20,000. People can buy online via telephone number 081 7762 611.

In the future, he said cow manure management would adopt innovations made at the Cikoko biogas cattle farm. There are 73 cattle breeders in South Jakarta. Each farmer has 10-15 cows.

Even, financial management will involve cooperatives that have been followed by breeders for a long time.

"So, the sales proceeds will go to the cooperative, later the funds collected will be used for maintenance," he explained.

One of the residents around the cattle farm, Fitri admitted he was greatly helped by the existence of renewable energy solutions. Now, she does not have to pay to buy gas, as her house has a biogas pipe installed from a cattle farm.

"Previously, I lived in Cikarang, and I got 4 cylinders of gas or Rp 88,000 every month. I happen to have a catering business. Insya Allah (God willing), I haven't spent anything on buying gas since living here," she admitted.

She added other neighbors nearby also enjoyed the flames from the cow dung waste. Moreover, during Idul Fitri celebrations, he and residents cooked Ketupat and Rendang for Eid meals using biogas.

"Especially during Idul Fitri, everyone uses (biogas). I'm very lucky to have biogas, I hope it doesn't die. Because, until now there has been no obstacle to the biogas turning off," she closed.
