We're always open to synergizing in realizing Jakarta as a global city that is comfortable for its residents, environmentally friendly, and has a growing economy. Hopefully, activities like this can continue," he expressed, as quoted by the Jakarta Government's press release.
He explained the Muara Angke area is a coastal area of Jakarta where most of the residents work as fishermen. This area borders directly on the sea, making it vulnerable to flooding due to the accumulation of garbage carried by river water and tidal waves from seawater.
To improve the quality of community settlements, the Ministry of Defense arranged housing in the form of floating houses and provided clean water. It was also conducted in the environment and land around settlements.
"Besides dredging mud to increase the depth of the boat's anchorage, we also clean up garbage and plant trees. Tree planting will be done on land resulting from dredging sediment of around 6,000 square meters. The purpose of planting trees is not only to green the area, conservation efforts, and reduce abrasion, but also to generate production," he explained.
The types of trees to be planted were 1,000 shade trees of various types and 25 coconut and breadfruit trees each. It would be executed in stages until September 9th.
The selection of tree species was adjusted to the characteristics of the location and its advantages, such as being resistant to salinity, being able to store water during the rainy season, and being able to prevent landslides due to sea waves.
Aside that, as many as 300 basic food packages were also distributed to the needy, consisting of five kilograms of rice and instant noodles.
Defense University Chancellor, Let. Gen. Jonni Mahroza admitted that he was pleased with this collaboration, as it could be the first step in welcoming environmental improvements, especially in Muara Angke.
It could also be an example of effective cooperation in collective work to improve the welfare of residents in coastal areas.
"Thanks to the Jakarta Government, we can create an area that allows residents to have a healthy environment, and their standard of living can improve. With this cooperation, it can be the first step for further activities that are useful for community life," he concluded.
Previously, synergy between the Jakarta Government and the Ministry of Defense has also been carried out in the form of technical guidance on agricultural and fisheries cultivation, as well as processing of products and making plant seeds for TNI members with special needs.
