Environmental Agency Strengthens Guidance for Economic Independence of Waste Banks

The synergy is a commitment of Jakarta Environmental Agency to encourage waste banks in Jakarta to continue to develop and achieve economic independence.

Jakarta Environmental Agency Head, Asep Kuswanto, said his side keeps giving support for waste banks to reach independent economy.

Sehati Waste Bank Contributes in Waste Matter

Asep admitted the agency keeps providing coaching and giving opportunity for them to participate in big events such as Festival Ekonomi Sirkular.

"It becomes their moment to escalate the business," Asep said, Tuesday (10/1).

The agency also gives award through Apresiasi Masyarakat Peduli Lingkungan (AMPL). High-performing Waste Banks are given recognition for their hard work and financial support for coaching.

"In addition, various workshops and coaching programs continue to be held to increase the capacity of the Waste Bank so that it can operate more effectively and efficiently," he added.

Asep continued waste banks are also helped to improve the quality of waste management and create a sustainable circular ecosystem through collaboration with Wahana Visi Indonesia (WVI) and Divers Clean Action (DCA) via Project Phinla.

Meanwhile, Chairman of the Indonesian Waste Bank Association (ASOBSI), Wilda Yanti, appreciated the synergy provided by the agency.

According to Wilda, the harmonization and synchronization of data that was carried out greatly helped the government in understanding the conditions and needs of the Waste Bank in Jakarta.

"Our cooperation with the agency is very good. The government can more easily monitor the development of the Waste Bank and know what is needed for further development with accurate waste data reporting and jointly designed programs," she said.

Through this strong synergy, Wilda hopes waste bank in Jakarta can be one of solutions in reducing waste in Jakarta.

"The existence of independence waste bank should triggers residents sorting their waste and turn it into benefit," she stated.
