Electrical Short Circuit Triggers Fire in Penggilingan

An electrical short circuit is suspected to be the trigger for the burning of three houses in Kampung Pisangan, Gang Bona, RT 09/03, Penggilingan, Cakung, East Jakarta, Thursday (10/17) at 1.25 AM.

East Jakarta Fire and Rescue Sub-agency (Gulkarmat)'s Operations Section Head, Abdul Wahid said the fire occurred when the homeowner was already fast asleep. Suddenly, they were shocked to find one of the rented houses on fire. Residents who saw it immediately shouted and woke the homeowner.

"Residents have tried to extinguish the flames but failed. The fire continued to grow and spread to surrounding buildings," he expressed.

Two-Story Dorm on Jalan Kemang Timur Raya Burned Down

To handle it, as many as 17 fire engines and 80 firefighters were immediately deployed to the scene.

"Around 3.16 AM or in two hours, we managed to control the fire," he explained.

No casualties or fatalities in the incident. But, nine families with 27 people had to lose their homes.

It was allegedly triggered by an electrical short circuit yet but the certainty was still waiting for the police investigation.

Penggilingan Urban Village Head, Wawan Gunawan said residents affected by the fire took refuge at the Al Mahrom Mosque, RT 08/03 near the scene.

His party has currently submitted a request for assistance to the Social Sub-agency and PMI for residents affected by the fire.

"The plan is that this afternoon 15 PPSU members will be deployed to clean up the debris left by the fire. However, the cleaning is waiting for the police investigation process to be completed," he concluded
