Carbon Emission Reduced through Blackout Movement

Jakarta Provincial Government through Environmental Agency held blackout movement on Saturday, November 9, 2024 at 8:30-9:30 PM.

This action aims to increase public awareness of energy savings and reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.

Several important achievements were recorded especially saving electricity consumption of 83 MWh during the action implementation.

Then, economic savings of Rp 120,263,708, calculated from electricity savings of 83 MWh with a rate of Rp 1,447.00 per KWh and a reduction in carbon emissions (CO2) of 66.49 tons, with a calculation of 83 MWh x 0.8 kg CO2 per KWh.

Jakarta Environmental Agency Head, Asep Kuswanto said the implementation is based on Jakarta Governor Instruction No 14/2021 which regulates the action of turning off lights four times per year to socialize energy savings and reduce carbon emissions.

He hoped the implementation will be able to reduce electricity energy consumption and emission, as well as give positive impact for environment.

"We hope that through this action, the public will be more aware of the importance of saving energy and reducing emissions," he said, Monday (11/11).

Moreover, Asep added, the implementation also aims to encourage public to care more about the use of efficient and environmentally friendly energy.
