Fake Rice Raid in Jakarta Keeps Being Intensified

The emergence of fake rice which are made of plastic materials makes the city administration starts to improve awareness by holding sudden inspection in some markets in Jakarta. At least 12 markets that spread in 6 sub-districts in North Jakarta inspected by officers. In the inspection, officers took 3 samples from 36 peddlers to be tested in laboratory. 

We inspect 2 market in each sub-district. It's about 3-4 shops inspected

Head of North Jakarta Maritime, Fishery and Food Security Sub-Department, Una Rusmana stated the inspection was held to anticipate the distribution of fake rice in North Jakarta. He mentioned, some of those 12 markets are Pademangan Timur, Pademangan Barat, Koja, Inpres Kelapa Gading, and Rawa Badak.

"We inspect 2 market in each sub-district. It's about 3-4 shops inspected," he explained, Thursday (5/21).

Temporary result, the indication of fake rice is still unknown. But to ensure it, his party will conduct test lab first. 

"If it is found then we will investigate whether the peddlers mix it or just sell. If the peddlers just sell the rice then they will be warned, but if they do such thing again then they will be sanctioned," he asserted. 

Meanwhile, Head of Food Security Division for Jakarta Maritime, Fishery and Food Security Department, Sri Haryati appealed people to be aware of fake rice with characteristic floating when soaked. Besides that, it can be known by its smell that is not like the real rice. The other characteristic of this fake rice is known have no fiber like the real rice. 

"Yesterday, we had inspected the Induk Beras Market in Cipinang. And today, we will the same thing simultaneously all over Jakarta. Until this time, the distribution of fake rice is still unknown in Jakarta," he disclosed.
