Relocation is Not for Tormenting People, Djarot Says

Principally, we want to build livable area together. Yet, we can't do it if it's somebody's property

Relocation of Ciliwung River residents in Pinangsia and Ancol conducted by Jakarta Provincial Government is purposed to anticipate flood problem in the capital. Residents then appealed not to worry their fate would be miserable as the government will prepare the flat before their homes demolished. 

"The government has no intention to torment residents. But, the government will also educate the unruly residents. If we demolish your homes due to standing on the land that is not yours, we will provide the relocation place," said Jakarta Vice Governor, Djarot Saiful Hidajat, to the representative of Ciliwung River residents, Pinangsia and Ancol at City Hall, Friday (5/22). 

Djarot : Do'nt Involve Young Children In Demonstration

Djarot then asked residents not to demonstrate. He himself promises will observe directly to the field in the near future. Moreover, in the demonstration, residents brought their children. 

"We can discuss it nicely, no more demonstration by bringing your children. People would think we did not open dialog space," he asserted. 

According to him, bringing kids in the demonstration is inappropriate. It is called exploitation. "Bringing kids and elderly in the demonstration, i don't like it. We often find out they have another house besides the riverbank," he told. 

Therefore, he also promised to summon sub-district and urban village heads to discuss the problem. Including give the citizens choice dismantling their own homes . Although, their existence on state property land. 

"Principally, we want to build livable area together. Yet, we can't do it if it's somebody's property," he finished.
