Jakarta's Old Shanghai Holds Festive Chinese New Year with Liong and Barongsai Patok

The streets lining Jakarta’s Old Shanghai City, Cakung, East Jakarta are buzzing as locals prepare for Chinese New Year, locally known as Imlek.

As usual, the Old Shanghai City presents the epic attractions of Barongsai Patok (lion dance) and Liong (dragon dance) to entertain visitors, which have been ongoing since Monday (1/27) and will end until Wednesday (1/29).

Marketing Communication Department Head Commercial Retail 1 - Agung Sedayu Group, Natalia Poetri Handayani said that today's performance of Barongsai and Liong is from Sanggar Kong Ha Hong, West Jakarta, which has won the world champion five times in a row.

"Liong performed last Monday and then Barongsai Patok will be next Wednesday," she explained, Tuesday (1/28).

She explained the Barongsai Patok will be held in the Plaza Old Shanghai area, in front of the Pagoda building, starting at 4.45 PM to 5.30 PM.

She was sure that visitors would be entertained by the Barongsai performers' attractions, just like during yesterday's Liong performance.

"Yesterday, there were 6,000 visitors and the number will increase significantly tomorrow because the event will be more lively," she explained.

Not only that, there is also the Lunar Fest Bazar from January 27 to February 9, 2025.
