Jakarta Teams Up with Creative Economy Ministry to Drive Creative Economy Growth

The Jakarta Government and the Ministry of Creative Economy (Ekraf)/Creative Economy Agency (Bekraf) agreed to work together to develop creative economy as an effort to support Jakarta's position as a Global City.

"This cooperation becomes a strategic step to develop many aspects of creative economy,"

The signing of Memorandum of Understanding were conducted by Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung and Minister of Ekraf, Teuku Riefky Harsya at Balairung, Jakarta City Hall, Friday (3/7).

Pramono hoped this cooperation would strengthen Jakarta's new role as the center of national economy and global city as mandated at the Law (UU) No.2/2024 on Jakarta Special Region.

"This cooperation is also included in our 100 work days program's executive action timeline," he asserted.

According to him, this cooperation targeted several sectors, including wider job opportunities, entrepreneurship, and creative industry.

He assessed that as the center of the national economy, Jakarta has great potential in the creative economy sector. Based on BPS 2024 research data, the creative economy sector contributed almost 11 percent of Jakarta's total PDRB.

In order to pave the way towards a competitive global city, he belives that the creative economy sector can drive economy growth. Moreover, this sector can serve as a space for cultural arts expression, innovation, and community empowerment, from community to professional levels.

"This cooperation becomes a strategic step to develop many aspects of creative economy, such as developing thematic events that can enhance attractiveness in tourism and creative industry in Jakarta," he said.

He also hoped the agreement would serve as a foundation for pursuing concrete actions that benefit Jakarta's creative economy players and ecosystem.

"I encourage all public elements to jointly oversee and support the implementation of this agreement. The active role of various parties is very important to ensure this initiative run optimally," he conveyed.

On that occasion, Ekraf Minister Teuku Riefky Harsya also explained that the collaboration aimed to strengthen the creative economy in sectors like culinary, fashion, art performances, animation films, and game development.

"Of course, to realize this in creative economy activities, we need to involve various creative economy associations and the ecosystem to make it more active," he mentioned.
