1.9 Tons of Trash Collected in East Port Zone of Lancang Island

Seribu Islands Environment Sub-agency personnel have collected an estimated 1.9 tons of garbage in the East Port Zone of Lancang Island, Pari Island Urban Village, South Seribu Islands Sub-district.

Residents should also be more environmentally conscious by not littering

Waste, Hazardous and Toxic Materials Management Section (PSLB3) Head, Lukman Dermanto said, due to bad weather a few days ago, the trash was carried by the sea currents and eventually piled up in that area.

"This waste collection involves seven personnel with supporting equipment. The trash is disposed of at a temporary site," he expressed, Friday (7/4).

He explained, the trash were dominated by plastic, styrofoam, to bamboo and wood.

"We successfully cleaned up 1,562 kilograms of residual waste and 425 kilograms of organic waste," he explained.

He added the same action was also spotted on other islands every day.

"Residents should also be more environmentally conscious by not littering. Let's keep our seas clean so that our ecosystem and marine life can continue to thrive," he added.

The action received appreciation from Pari Island Urban Village Head, Muhammad Adriansyah. It involved five personnel of PPSU.

"Trash like this often occurs during bad weather. I appreciate the personnel who quickly cleaned up the trash; it is now clean," he uttered.
