Don't Panic Buy, Food Availability in Jakarta is Safe!

Jakarta Food Security, Marine, and Agriculture Agency (KPKP) Head, Hasudungan Sidabalok, urges residents not to engage in panic buying following the protests in Jakarta in recent days.

Don't panic buy

He guarantees that the strategic food stock in Jakarta, such as rice, meat, and eggs, is safe and sufficient for up to two months ahead.

"Don't panic buy. Because our food supply is enough for the next two months and the stock is also sufficient," he expressed, at Jakarta City Hall, Tuesday (9/2).

Protest Action, Jakarta Loses Rp 51.1 Billion

He explained that the current rice stock in Jakarta reaches 303,297 tons, while the estimated need is 156,745 tons. Similarly, for beef, the stock amounts to 40,418 tons, and the need is only 11,999 tons. Then, the chicken meat stock reaches 74,940 tons, exceeding the requirement of 30,176 tons.

As for the availability of chicken eggs reaches 21,478 tons, while the demand is 19,525 tons. The stock of curly red chili peppers is 10,641 tons, which is more than the required 5,595 tons.

And also, the stock of red onions is 8,688 tons, with a need for 4,677 tons. The garlic is 8,728 tons, exceeding the requirement of 3,814 tons.

"So, everything is in fairly good condition," he stressed.

Regarding subsidized food distribution, Hasudungan ensures that all 213 KJP service outlets are now operating normally. Two outlets, at Pasar Senen and Poncol, which were temporarily closed due to protests, have now reopened.

"There are two subsidized food points affected by the protests that are closed. But now, they are open. So, there are 213 outlets for subsidized food exchanges," he added.

He has also prepared precautions in case protests occur again in Jakarta. Nevertheless, he assured that food availability in the capital city is still safe to meet the needs of the community.
