Jakarta Council (DPRD) Commission B Member, Francine Widjojo, praised Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung's initiative to issue a Gubernatorial Regulation (Pergub) that would prohibit the trade and distribution of non-food animal meat, particularly dog and cat meat, in Jakarta.
"We truly appreciate the governor's quick response,"
The decision follows a meeting between the Jakarta Provincial Government and the Dog Meat Free Indonesia Coalision (DMFI), which advocates for Jakarta to become a national model in preventing the spread of diseases, including rabies.
"We truly appreciate the governor's quick response. A Pergub is expected to be issuead in about a month," Francine mentioned on Tuesday (10/14).

"So, it's coming soon. Currently, only around 11 provinces in Indonesia, including Jakarta, are considered rabies-free," she explained.
Francine also confirmed that the Jakarta DPRD will oversee the implementation of the Pergub until it is developed into a regional regulation (Perda) through collaboration with the executive.
Furthermore, she hopes the regulation will put an end to the illegal distribution of dog and cat meat in Jakarta.
"This is a top priority. Not just for animal health, but also for public health," she asserted.
