Religious Harmony in Jakarta Has Potential to Win Harmony Award

The Jakarta Province has a great potential to win the Harmony Award from the Ministry of Religious as it is deemed to have a good level of harmony and tolerance among different religious communities.

Jakarta Governor will receive the Harmoni Award 

Jakarta Branch Religious Ministry Office Head, Adib said, religious harmony in Jakarta remains maintained despite the highly diverse population.

"Hopefully, when the time comes, the Jakarta Governor will receive the Harmoni Award for truly being able to maintain harmony in Jakarta," he expressed,Thursday (10/16).

In recent years, he explained, the harmony among religious communities in Jakarta has been very conducive. This is largely due to the role of the local government in issuing various regulations and implementing programs that provide equal opportunities for all groups and communities.

"Through inclusive regulations and programs, Jakarta already has a strong foundation for fostering religious harmony. This is one of the important criteria for a region to receive the Harmony Award," he explained.

According to him, the Harmoni Award program is currently being discussed at the Ministry of Religious. The announcement of the award recipients is slated to be made in November, after an assessment by the Forum for Religious Harmony (FKUB) of the regions that meet the criteria.

"Jakarta previously received the Harmoni Award in 2022. Hopefully, this year, it will win again because the harmony situation continues to be maintained," he added.

He assessed, Jakarta's position as the capital city makes it a benchmark for other regions in maintaining stability and social harmony.

"As it approaches its five-hundred-year age, Jakarta is a highly plural and diverse city. If Jakarta is safe, Indonesia is surely safe. But if Jakarta is unsafe, the entire Indonesia will feel the impact," he explained.

Adib appreciated the Governor, Pramono Anung, who has inaugurated the FKUB management throughout Jakarta. This step is very important to strengthen the role of FKUB in maintaining and developing religious harmony in Jakarta.

"The inauguration of FKUB by the Governor demonstrates the local government's strong commitment to building a harmonious, peaceful, and respectful religious life," he said.
