Underwater Electrical Cable Repairs on Untung Jawa Island Begin in November

The Seribu Islands Manpower, Transmigration, and Energy Sub-agency (Nakertransgi), together with PT PLN, will conduct underwater cable repairs in the waters of Untung Jawa Island Urban Village, South Seribu Islands, next November 2025.

This repair will take approximately 3,200 meters

Seribu Islands Nakertransgi Sub-agency's Energy Section Head, Parulian Simanjuntak said, the repair aims to maintain the stability of the existing electrical distribution in Seribu Islands and to follow up on the supervision results, which found suspected damage to one phase of the cable.

"This repair will take approximately 3,200 meters in the waters of Untung Jawa Island, with this cable originating from Tanjung Pasir Substation, Tangerang," he expressed, Friday (10/31).

Technically, this repair will be conducted using a connecting method. That is, the damaged cable is lifted to the surface using a buoyant drum and chain block.

Then, the damaged section of the cable will be cut and replaced with a new one using a resin kit connection to ensure it is waterproof, followed by an insulation resistance test to verify its suitability before being lowered back to the seabed.

"Hopefully, the weather will be friendly and the repairs can be completed soon. Please pray and support everyone so that everything runs smoothly," he hoped.

Seribu Islands Regency Secretary, Tri Indrawan added that locals do not need to worry about power outages during the repair period, as PLN will switch to backup cables.

"We have also coordinated with several related parties, including Satpol PP and Police, to prevent workplace accidents," he explained.

He asserted, The local government will continue to coordinate with PLN until the work is completed.

According to him, the electricity supply in Seribu Islands is very adequate because all inhabited islands are also equipped with underwater cables.

"We will oversee the repair process to ensure it complies with the established safety and technical standards," he stated.
