Mother’s Day 2025: Reflecting on the Contributions of Indonesian Women

Presiding over the 97th Mother’s Day commemoration at Jakarta City Hall, Governor Pramono Anung, accompanied by Deputy Governor Rano Karno, highlighted the historical significance of the occasion. Delivering a speech on behalf of the Minister of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection, Pramono reminded attendees of the movement’s origins.

Jakarta government is truly committed to providing space and appreciation for women

The commemoration traces back to the 1928 Indonesian Women’s Congress, which ignited a national spirit for gender equality. It remains a symbol of women’s empowerment and their vital role in shaping Indonesia’s future in partnership with men.

This year’s commemoration is held under the theme "Empowered Women, Contributing Towards Golden Indonesia 2045".

3,000 Women Celebrate Mother's Day 2025

"Jakarta government is truly committed to providing space and appreciation for women," Pramono stated, Monday (12/22).

The annual Mother’s Day celebration every December 22 is a tribute to the Indonesian women's struggle and dedication in gaining and fulfilling the nation’s independence. It is more than just a ceremony; it is a profound recognition of all women across all roles—within the family, society, and the nation.

Throughout history, Indonesian women have been agents of change, driving innovation, fighting for justice, and strengthening human values. They are strategic partners in national development.

"Despite facing various challenges, including the dual burden, stigma, limited access, and gender-based violence, women have never stopped fighting," he explained.

Pramono emphasized that women are not merely beneficiaries of development but the primary engines of change. He added, even with many limitations, women remain the pillars of the family economy, guardians of cultural values, community leaders, and innovators.

"The 97th anniversary is a moment of reflection and appreciation for all Indonesian women, regardless of their social background, profession, culture, or region," he explained.

Stressing the vital role of women in working, creating, and nurturing the next generation, he asserted that women’s voices must form the core of the nation's future policy and development.

To achieve this, the government is intensifying its focus on legal protections, including the implementation of the Law on Sexual Violence Crimes (UU TPKS) and gender mainstreaming initiatives. It aims to create a safe environment where women are free from discrimination and violence, allowing their potential to flourish.

"Full participation requires more than just words; it demands concrete action and cross-sectoral synergy," he added.

He urged stakeholders across the private sector and civil society to unite in establishing gender equality as a primary pillar in the journey toward the 'Golden Indonesia 2045' vision.
