250 North Jakarta SDA Personnel on Standby for Extreme Weather

A total of 250 personnel from the North Jakarta Water Resources (SDA) Sub-agency have been placed on standby to anticipate potential extreme weather and hydrometeorological disasters.

"All equipment must be in good condition,"

They assembled for the “Siaga Jaga Jakarta” roll call held at the South Sunter Pump Building, Jalan Sunter Jaya I, Sunter Jaya Urban Village, Tanjung Priok Sub-district, on Tuesday (12/23).

Commission D Urges Jakarta Government to Prepare for Extreme Weather

On this occasion, North Jakarta Mayor Hendra Hidayat symbolically pinned the “Jaga Jakarta” badge on five personnel as a sign of shared commitment in anticipating floods, especially amid extreme weather conditions.

Hendra stated that preparedness is the key to protecting North Jakarta from flooding. He emphasized that North Jakarta faces different levels of vulnerability compared to other areas in the city.

"Other areas may deal with clogged drains or rising river levels. But in North Jakarta, in addition to heavy rainfall and upstream runoff, there's also the threat of tidal flooding," he explained.

He stressed that three main aspects must be ready to operate 24 hours a day: personnel readiness, pump conditions, and fuel supplies.

"There must be no delay in pump operations. All equipment must be in good condition. Fuel logistics management is also critical to prevent pump failure during emergencies," he asserted.

Hendra also reminded all personnel to maintain their health, stay motivated, and comply with occupational health and safety (K3) guidelines.

"Work enthusiasm must go hand-in-hand with taking care of personal health and safety. This roll call should serve as a reminder for all of us to keep serving and protecting the community," he said.

Meanwhile, North Jakarta Water Resources (SDA) Sub-agency Head, Heria Suwandi, explained that the standby roll call was attended by around 250 personnel from the sub-agency to sub-district level.

"These personnel are on standby to strengthen flood control efforts in North Jakarta," he added.

Heria added that the North Jakarta SDA Sub-agency has prepared 75 pump houses with a total of 199 pumps and a combined capacity of 315,900 liters per second (LPS).

In addition, 182 standby pumps, 22 mobile pumps, and 22 trailer pumps are ready to be deployed as needed. Additional pumps have also been placed on standby at the sub-district level.

"This roll call serves as a reminder that the duties of the Blue Troops are not limited to technical tasks.  They are also there to serve, protect, and provide a sense of safety for North Jakarta residents through real action on the ground," he noted.

He mentioned that extreme weather is predicted to occur from December to February, making quick and accurate response the top priority in every situation.

"Each day, personnel and equipment are ensured to be in good condition and ready for operation," he stated.
