Ragunan Zoo Set to Hit 20,000 Mark as Holiday Crowds Pour In

Crowds are flocking to Ragunan Zoo (TMR) in South Jakarta to make the most of the Isra Mi'raj public holiday.

The numbers are still picking up steam

The zoo’s spokesperson, Wahyudi Bambang, reported that 12,194 visitors had already passed through the gates by Friday noon (1/16).

"The numbers are still picking up steam, and we expect the turnout to keep climbing until late afternoon," he expressed.

146,717 People Visited Ragunan Zoo

By noon, the vehicle tally at the zoo reached 1,393 motorbikes and 1,087 cars, along with a handful of buses and bicycles. He noted, parking capacity is still well within limits.

"We’re keeping a close watch. If things start to bottle up, we’re ready to clear the way by opening up our usual alternative parking zones," he added.

Beyond just animal sightings, the zoo is a one-stop shop for family fun with its signature Keeper Talks and Feeding sessions.

Wahyudi added that these attractions are designed to be both fun and educational.

However, as the weather has been hit-or-miss, he urged everyone to come prepared with rain gear to ensure they don't get caught in the rain.

"The weather has been quite fickle lately—sunny one moment and pouring the next—so we urge everyone to play it safe and bring rain gear," he continued.

In the hustle and bustle of the holiday, he also reminded visitors to keep a watchful eye on children and the elderly to ensure no one gets lost in the shuffle.

"Safety is paramount; please stay alert and never cross the line near the animal enclosures," he added.

One visitor, 26-year-old Diva Susanti, chose Ragunan because it is a stone’s throw away from her home and easy on the pocket.

"I’m here with friends to make hay while the sun shines. We’re laying out our mats for a picnic while the weather is still holding up," she admitted.
