October, Rivers and Water Channels Dredging Completed

Jakarta Water Management Department is targeting to complete the dredging work of rivers and water channels as flood anticipation ahead rainy season in the upcoming October. 

Early next month, the dredging of rivers and water channels will be re-intensified

"Early next month, the dredging of rivers and water channels will be re-intensified. Our heavy equipments will be operated 14-16 hours every day. The dredging is targeted will be complete in October," said Head of Jakarta Water Management Department, Tri Joko Sri Margianto, Tuesday (7/28). 

Margianto disclosed, the dredging of rivers and water channels which emptying into reservoir has been ongoing. "It becomes our main work priority," he told. 

August, 14 Connecting Channels and 2 Dams in East Jakarta Dredged

The dredging, he expressed, is prioritized to some shallow rivers thus it would eventually have a bigger water capacity to reserve rainfall that will pour down the city.

"We also repair other channels toward reservoir. The clogged ones will be dredged to smoothen water flow," he expressed. 

It is handled directly by Water Management Sub-Departments of each area. "We're working it by ourselves by optimizing all officers and existed equipments," he explained. 

Former of Seribu Islands Regent is optimistic that flood-prone points in Jakarta will decrease if all rivers and water channels are dredged.
