Basuki Learned Flood Handling in Densely Populated Areas

The visit of Jakarta Governor Basuki 'Ahok' T Purnama to Rotterdam, Netherlands, used to study how to solve flood in densely populated areas. Moreover, these areas are also commonly detected in Jakarta and not get the maximum handling.

Maruhal, one of Jakarta Governor staffs who accompanied Ahok in Rotterdam explained that the governor visited several locations. They are like project climate change adaption in which there were water plaza, park museum, and integrated urban area development in Markthal Market area.

"It is aimed to study how to implement flood mitigation in densely populated areas by using temporary water reservoirs to accommodate rainwater. Thus flood can be prevented when rain pours with high intensity in short duration," he explained via short message, Wednesday (9/23).

He furthered that water plaza has a lot of function that combined for public area, basket ball field, skate board field, playground and underground parking area.

There were also some things conveyed by Rotterdam Mayor, Ahmed Aboutaleb. Among them is the need for private sector involvement in the development of the city. It also aims to boost the economy and meet the needs of the market or the public.

"The meeting last Tuesday was closed with the signing of MoU over Cooperation between Sister City Jakarta-Rotterdam," he closed.
